Policies People Care About
ESSEX PEOPLE is Local Community Politics powered by the people and not billionaires funding national parties. Our party is different to the other main parties. Policies are proposed by members and a 2/3rds majority vote by members is needed for policies to become party policy. We encourage local people who agree with the party’s aim of representing ordinary people to join the party. Regarding issues that affect us, our right to informed consent represents real democracy. Please join ESSEX PEOPLE so that you can propose and vote on policies. Membership is free because we want to encourage participation. The monthly donation is voluntary.
Our constitution for ESSEX PEOPLE was agreed on 20th July 2026 by me the Party Leader and our Treasurer. These are for now proposed policies which will be voted on by the members as soon as we have 500 members. So, please join and encourage your friends to join so you can have a say.
Direct Democracy
Our elected MPs and Councillors must take instructions from members of ESSEX PEOPLE from within their constituency or ward on how to vote on their behalf. This is the opposite of top-down parties which whip their Councillors, MSPs and MPs into voting along party.
Local Development Grants for Community Interest Companies
These grants should be available in the 30% of most deprived Borough, District & Town Councils to facilitate local initiatives to revitalise the high street providing services and jobs.
Education
Improving literacy & numeracy in Primary Schools is a priority. We cannot afford to let standards drop further. We will organise a task force of teachers and parents to inform us and guide us on which changes need to be reversed and how education can be improved.
Our policy on relationships, sexual health and parenthood classes recognise parents’ central role and ensures parents are informed of the topics at the start of each term requiring all parents to either consent or opt-out their child from certain topics. It is time to empower parents.
Additional Support Needs (ASN)
There is a large ongoing increase in children requiring ASN. Our policy is to call for an annual increase in the budget for ASN which is equal to the annual increase in children with ASN. We also call for far more research to be commissioned by the Government to identify the likely causes of this concerning increase in Additional Support Needs.
NHS & Health Promotion
Reverse & STOP privatisation of the NHS. The current system treats symptoms, prescribing drugs lifelong at a huge cost to the NHS yielding huge corporate profits. Our policy it to promote prevention and to focus on real cures rather than treating symptoms lifelong.
Social Care
Protect the Social Care budget and oppose cuts. Ensure vacancies are filled more quickly by encouraging more people to join the profession. Our policy is for the minimum wage for social care workers to be 10% higher than the minimum wage.
Winter Fuel Allowance
This should be maintained for OAPs until energy bills come down.
Men & Women’s Equal Rights are a central and important issue to ensure all people are treated equally. The Equality Act 2010 enshrines in law that “sex” is one of the nine protected characteristics. Equal sex-based rights must be protected.
Business Support
Encourage new small businesses to lease empty shops by offering them a 2-year rates relief holiday to help them get past the 18-month period within which most small businesses fail. Increase the VAT threshold from £90,000 to £500,000 to incentivise small one-man-band & family businesses to grow. This also will give small businesses a competitive advantage over large businesses who benefit from economies of scale.
Mobile Telecommunications Provide a better mobile phone signal strength for UK mobile devices by legislating that the four networks set their customers’ SIM cards to roaming. Mobile phones will connect to the mast with the strongest signal. This will reduce the quantity of Telecom Masts needed.
Net Zero Policy
The UK is being de-industrialised because we have the highest gas and electricity prices in Europe.
The UK is trying to lead by example with our current aggressive Net Zero Policies but is achieving the opposite. Our economic outlook is encouraging others not to follow our example. This is going to have a negative effect on the worldwide transition to greener energy.
North Sea Oil & Gas Policy & Nuclear
Our policy is to increase North Sea Oil and Gas production rather than importing at a higher cost.
This will have the effect of reducing our Gas & Electricity prices which will stop our industrial decline and hopefully reverse it. The savings made and the increased tax receipts can be invested in green energy initiatives including Nuclear Power.
